With too many leaves it becomes discolored and red from the breakdown of all the organic matter. I've found the best way to handle this is to drain the pond and give it one good cleaning. Afterwards I installed small pylons on each side of the pond and arched pvc over the pond that had a net attached that I can quickly place before the leaves fall. Does anyone have any other ideas or perhaps products that work well with breaking down organic compounds.

There are products that do help the breakdown of organic materials, but something to be cognizant of when choosing one, is the type and amount of species you have living within the pond ie; Koi, Goldfish, Catfish etc.
